Human Relations Commission
The Escambia-Pensacola Human Relations Commission was created by an interlocal agreement between the Escambia County Board of Commissioners and the city of Pensacola in April 1974. Florida Statute 163.01 et seq. authorizes interlocal agreements. The interlocal agreement established an initial duration of two years and provided for renewal thirty days prior to expiration date. The purpose of this commission is to be "responsible for the promotion of fair treatment and equal opportunity to all citizens of the local community." It is composed of nine members; four to be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners; four to be appointed by the City Council and; one to be appointed by the Human Relations Commission. The term of office for members is two years (The interlocal agreement approved in 2005 reduced the term of office from three years to two years). Vacancies shall be appointed for the balance of unexpired term.
